Toyota Prius PHEV to debut at Frankfurt Motor Show, Good news for those who are waiting for the release of Prius Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) manufactured by Toyota as the Japanese automaker announced on Tuesday that it will unveil the full production version of the Prius PHEV on September 15 at the Frankfurt Motor Show in Germany. The upcoming version is different from Prius’ released earlier by Toyota as it sports a lithium-ion battery which is compact but offers EV range, which is more than earlier models. The Prius PHEV managed to achieve the 128.4 mpg fuel efficiency target figure due to this lithium-ion battery.

The 1.8 L engine of the PHEV generates 97 hp, which is good by any standard.

Toyota has paired the engine with a permanent magnet synchronous electric motor, which adds another 79 bhp. In electric mode, Prius can touch a top speed of as much as 62 mph (100 km/hour) and cover 12.5 miles (20 km) if it is fully charged. The battery gets fully charged in around three hours and if you are in rush and want to charge it in less time then you can use a specialized charger, which can fully charge the battery in less than two hours. We all know that the market of hybrid cars is going to expand in the coming months and it seems that Toyota is planning to remain ahead of its competitors. The release of the PHEV will give an edge to Toyota as the company can make the new Prius, set to hit the road next year, its hybrid lineup.

The new Prius PHEV will join the Prius, Auris hybrid, Prius+, and Yaris hybrid. It is to be noted that Toyota had initially developed Prius PHEV as a compact sedan but then decided to turn it onto a hatchback. Prius has been rated as the cleanest vehicle sold in the United States by the EPA and California Air Resources Board (CARB). Toyota first released Prius in 1997 in Japan and then in 2001, the car was introduced worldwide. Presently, older models of the Prius are available for sale in more than 70 countries across the globe. These cars are hugely popular in Japan and North America with the global sales touching 1 million mark in May 2008.

The new Prius will find many takers because Toyota enjoys good reputation and the features of the new Prius which will attract many buyers for the new car. Toyota deserves credit for working relentlessly over the development of more-efficient electric vehicles. Toyota’s effort will also encourage its competitors to come up with more efficient electric vehicles. It is expected that the electric vehicles will replace the fuel guzzling vehicles which are common these days if the automakers will manage to resolve the issue of efficiency of electric vehicles.
